Nestled in Barangaroo Reserve’s Nawi Cove will be a new iteration of Taste Orange set for later this month. The cool-climate food and wine festival dedicated completely to Orange has become best known around Sydney for its annual two-day celebration at Martin Place each September, and Barangaroo’s turn to host a new expression of the event will no doubt be building upon that success, providing a deeper insight into what has made Orange one of the fastest growing food and wine destinations in the state.
Come Sunday 20th November, the one day only event will bring over 20 stallholders together to represent Orange, presenting the public with a free entry, six-hour extravaganza aimed at showcasing the cool climate wine, food, culture, and tourism opportunities of the famed NSW region. It’s but one part of the much larger ‘Visit Orange’ campaign which has Orange City Council regularly tempting Sydneysiders to make the 3-4 hour drive over to experience all that Orange has to offer.
Five-star wineries Phillip Shaw and Ross Hill will be heading the lineup which also includes awarded local cider makers Small Acres Cyder and eight other local wineries, all of whom will be more than keen to show off their produce. And of course wine is one of the primary reasons a festival like Taste Orange @ Martin Place can attract over 14,000 guests over two days, so a for Barangaroo the organisers are offering a special pre-purchase $40, 10-ticket tasting pack (available online, link below) so visitors can jump straight into the tasting as soon as they arrive.
Franklin Road Preserves will be bringing up homemade preserves of vegetables picked straight from the kitchen garden, all of which will be available for purchase on the day. Various other food stalls will be set up, including ones which will prepare gourmet food made with indigenous ingredients by local Wiraduri food companies. Think lemon myrtle shortbread and wild rosella bush tucker biscuits from DreamTimeTuka, and kangaroo sliders and pies from Bush Tuka.
Some of Sydney’s most affable food outlets will be making their way into to cove as well, including Jimmy Liks, El-Phoenician, Oysters Unplugged, and Serendipity Icecream. They’ll all be using produce sourced straight from the Orange region to help showcase the region.
