The family behind Mosman’s famed Fourth Village Providore have now spread the love to the inner-west with Danks Street Produce Merchants. Opened just a few weeks ago, the permanent new venue is fashioned as a European-style market looking to fuel the hungry and produce-focused cooks of the surrounding suburbs.
While the number of stalls are growing, a free range butcher, a fishmonger peddling fresh seafood, Danks St. Cheese Affineurs, and Sami’s Souk Middle Eastern groceries are just some of the stalls that currently make up the daily destination, which on the weekend will bust out the trestles for an old school market welcoming producers from around Australia. 1200 square metres have been made dedicated market space, while 600sqm is reserved for Mezzanino, the resident ristorante and bar where produce sourced from the market will be showcased with a range of small plates, served from a fleet of roaming trolleys.
“This site enabled me to create the kind of local markets my wife Annette and I knew in Italy and France and fell in love with”, offered Fourth Village Providore’s Peter Quattroville. “Food is only limited by imagination and we wanted to create a space where all kinds of produce merchants can work alongside each other in one community”.
Bread, confectionery, fruit and veg, meats and charcuterie, import cheeses, fresh seafood and handmade pasta are just some of what to expect from the produce merchants each day, offering a whole range of artisanal traders in one very convenient spot, in a long-standing building that originally housed Fratelli Fresh.
