Beach Clubs and Hermitude: Australian Open of Surfing to bring the heat to Manly Beach (Sydney)

The make summer a bit more bearable in Sydney the 2017 Australian Open of Surfing are giving people a pretty damn good reason to head down to Manly Beach in the last days of summer. The program of free live music, food and drink they have planned alongside parties and big names of surf, skateboarding and BMX will surely trump the expected attendance number of 325,000.

A nautical themed beach club pop up will be the main hangout for those heading along, operating with free entry across AOS’ nine days with some added beach-luxe from Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel who will bring along their seaside-chic fitout with comfy lounge furniture and blue and white umbrellas. They’ll also be on hand with some of their signatures eats and drinks, including fresh coconut cocktails, fish & chips, fresh seafood selections and a specialty Hawaiian poke. Couple this with a full license to serve ice-cold, craft beers from local favs 4 Pines and you’ve got yourself an essential summer destination.

A total of two on-the-beach concerts will thread through AOS, the first being a show from none other than Hermitude, set to take the MTV Stage with guest Elk Road on March 4th (from 5:30pm).

Update: As if a free on-the-beach concert from Hermitude wasn’t enough, it’s now been revealed that the second free concert (on March 5th) will be headlined by none other than The Jezabels. The ethereal four-piece will take to take stage from 4:30pm on the final day of AOS.**

Nearby Japanese eatery Daniel San has been announced as AOS’ official after party location, so each day the public will be invited to shake off the sand and head over for Japanese street food and the diner’s famously grungy party atmosphere.

“Every year we aim to grow the event and bring in new elements to entertain the fans”, explained Vice President of Event Operations Australia Simon Corkill. This year, with the first ever Beach Club, new skate competition format and the addition of BMX – along with a strong music line-up – we have pushed the reset button on the event”.
