This time of year it’s mighty tempting to fight them winter chills and head off somewhere sunny, welcoming and familiar. Hawaii remains a top destination for us Aussies which is unsurprising, given how similarly laid back and beachy the vibe is over there. So for anyone craving an eternal summer or daydreaming about their next trip, a visit to the FLUX Hawaii Shop pop-up heading to Sydney this week may be a good start.
FLUX a tri-annual publication focused on island culture has partnered up with Hawaii Tourism Oceania (HTO) to celebrate the month of the lei by showcasing nearly 30 Hawaii-based artisans and brands with a range of goods for sale, creative and cultural workshops and ‘talk stories’, as well as live performances by emerging local artists. The concept has taken three years to make its way to our shores with events run during New York Fashion Week, and pop-up shops in Brooklyn New York and Venice in Los Angeles.
Exclusive product will be debuted at the launch of the pop-up including leather goods made in collaboration with Leather Soul, accessories with Miemiko and apparel with Salvage Public. Workshops will include hand embroidery of goods, printmaking demos, talk stories from Sig Zane Design leads and special in-house performances from R&B artist Izik and singer/songwriter Kimié Miner.
Hawaii Tourism Oceania Australia Country Manager, Kerri Anderson hopes this partnership will give Australian’s greater insight to what contemporary Hawaii has to offer. “Hawaii’s traditional culture and aloha spirit are world famous, but to be able to support Hawaii-based artists and musicians to come to Australia to showcase the modern Hawaii will help Australians see a different side of Hawaiian culture.”
