The Maroon Festival will be a hub for Queensland fans, with the inaugural event kicking off on the days leading up to the State of Origin. Running from Sunday 28 May to Wednesday 31 May along Brisbane’s South Bank, the free family event blends all things rugby league and Queensland’s booming culinary culture across four days jam packed with things to do for locals and visitors.
The four day festival will host the Taste of QLD Food Stalls, bringing together the best local eateries, cafes and food trucks. From 10 am daily, the stalls will showcase delicious varieties of dishes from all over the Queensland region, with a focus on locally sourced produce. On top of all this there will be a bunch of free live performances during the festival, including live music from the great Bubsy Marou.
A Queensland institution making an appearance, is Schulte, offering up their cured meats made in the Lokyer Valley region. At The Farmer’s Table stall, feast on organic locally produced ingredients like the free-range chicken and hand-crafted tacos and nachos.
Sultans Kitchen will be spicing things up with fire chips, minted aioli and vegetable curries sourced from Darling Downs, while Sate House will be bringing a hint of Malay and Indonesian flavours to the festival. Also joining is a Southbank favourite, Popolo, dishing up Italian delicacies like fennel meatballs with Bundaberg tomato sugo, roasted Gatton pumpkin and feta arancini.
For those with a sweet tooth, the health-focused mobile van, Whips & Co. have driven up from the Gold Coast with their soft serves made from vegan CocoWhip and topping them with goji berries, fruits and raw goodies.
A highlight will be the Waterfront Garden bar, serving up beers, wines, spirits and ciders while patrons relax to the backdrop of Brisbane’s beautiful Southbank river. Nibbles of gourmet rolls, sandwiches, mixed cheese and antipasto platters will be on the menu, made by the local Zen Catering team.
