Here are the winners of the 5th annual Gault&Millau Australia Awards

Gault&Millau, the publisher of the only internationally recognised restaurant guide in Australia, have announced the winners of the fifth annual Australian awards. The winners, announced at a ceremony held in Sydney earlier this week, indicate a progressive dining scene and celebrate top achievers from all over the country.

The awards night also marked the debut of Gault&Millau’s first nationwide ‘Yellow Guide’, boasting over 700 restaurants reviews from venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Perth and Adelaide.

Interestingly enough, all restaurants awarded were from Victoria, with Queensland’s only award being Professional of the Year (going to Clare Wallace of Brisbane’s Montrachet) and the only NSW winner being Pepe Saya for Producer of the Year. Ouch for Sydney.

The 2017 winners are as follows

Restaurant of the Year
Attica, Melbourne

Chef of the Year
Shaun Quade (Lûmé, Melbourne)

Young Talent of the Year
John Rivera (Amaru, Armadale)

New Restaurant of the Year
Kisumé, Melbourne

Pastry Chef of the Year
Pierrick Boyer (Le Petit Gâteau, Melbourne)

Sommelier of the Year
Carlos Simoes Santos (Vue de monde, Melbourne)

Professional of the Year
Clare Wallace (Montrachet, Brisbane)

Producer of the Year
Pepe Saya, NSW
