We’ve already got Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts and Ippudo, so it was only a matter of time before ST Group bought down another very well-known Japanese brand, dipping back into the sweet side with Pafu. Last year the Japanese puff-pastry dessert made a successful debut at QV in Melbourne, so now it’s Sydney’s turn to experience the unique treats as PAFU’s first store opens in Macquarie Centre.
Like most Japanese chains, PAFU specialises in just one item, which is a palm-sized pastry puff filled with warm custard and apple, representing a distinctly Japanese take on the French apple turnover (ou chasson aux) but making use of a signature flaky pastry, tender baked Fuji apples, and rich custard which is piped into the pastry.
Next time you’re dodging the crowds at Macquarie Centre, be on the lookout for PAFU’s bright-pink store. The puffs are only $4.20 each.
