Just in time for Winter, Newtown brewery Young Henrys have unveiled a brand new seasonal porter, Motorcycle Oil, which is available from May 1st in limited quantities, following its official public launch at Dust Hustle – one of the most popular motorcycle festivals in the country. A fitting launch location given the name of the beer, which was inspired by a local who rode a big Indian Motorcycle.
The porter is as dark as they come (as the name may imply), but it sits with a smooth, albeit hoppy finish (though at 37 IBUs with a 5.5% ABV it’s by no means intense). Anyone who likes their darker brews will definitely find themselves enjoying the drink, and given this is a returning release from a small batch produced in 2017, it seems like there were more than a few who raised their voices for it to return as their 2018 Winter release.
Young Henrys’ co-founder Oscar McMahon said of the release, “Last year we brewed a small batch of Motorcycle Oil with one of our Newtown mates to celebrate our loves in common. It was a hoppy porter primarily consumed by us and our mates. This year we’re bringing it back, bigger and blacker in our first ever 500-millilitre can.”
To celebrate the release of the beer, Newtown’s communal motorcycle workshop and cafe Rising Sun Workshop have put together a special black ramen, called Darker than Darkness, which is available all of May for just $25 with a schooner of Motorcycle Oil, for a limited time. It’s a heavy meal, so make sure you arrive with a very empty stomach.
The beer, meanwhile, is available on tap, growlers or 500mL tinnies from May 1st, until it runs out.
