On September 6th, the culmination of years of work will debut on the Sydney Opera House stage – a precise recreation of the original 1956 Broadway production of My Fair Lady, helmed by the woman who starred in the production itself as Eliza Doolittle – Dame Julie Andrews. Taking over this role for the 60th Anniversary production will be rising star of the stage Anna O’Byrne, who will star in this anticipated Opera House show alongside Reg Livermore, Robyn Nevin, Alex Jennings, Mark Vincent and more.
Anna O’Byrne graduated from the Victorian College of Arts and has a growing international career spanning opera, theatre, concert and film, with starring roles in theatre productions including Love Never Dies and The Phantom of the Opera. She’s currently performing on the West End in a production of Guys and Dolls.
Last week O’Byrne returned to Australia to prepare for the role, and I had the chance to sit down with the star to chat about her upcoming performance – from working with Julie Andrews, to the incredible costumes we can expect from the production, her experiences on stage in the UK and more…
