The winning emerging artists from a range of creative disciplines for the Helpmann Academy competition have been announced. In its second round of competitive grants for 2017, a total of $46,000 has been awarded to support a total of sixteen projects.
The projects include professional development opportunities such as international residencies, workshops, exhibitions, performances, film projects, and recordings.
Helpmann Academy CEO, Jane MacFarlane said the diverse range of opportunities and projects being supported will benefit both individual artists and industries they are working within.
“We are delighted to be enabling artists to travel and experience global professional development opportunities, as well as empowering them to work with mentors, industry, and other emerging artists from South Australia.” Jane said.
Some of the projects being funded include:
- Daniel Thorpe, Elder Conservatorium of Music graduate will travel to Portugal to participate in the Estalagem da Ponta do Sol Residency for Contemporary Music and Electronics.
- Courtney Cox, Adelaide College of the Arts (TAFE SA/Flinders University) graduate will travel to Israel to participate in professional development courses with Batsheva Dance Company and Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company.
- eDuard Helmbold, University of South Australia graduate will undertake a three-week residency at Arts, Letters and Numbers in upstate New York, USA.
To get involved, the Helpmann Academy grants are open to staff, students and recent graduates of Elder Conservatorium of Music (University of Adelaide), Adelaide College of the Arts (TAFE SA/Flinders University), Flinders Drama and Screen Production (Flinders University) and the School of Art, Architecture and Design (University of South Australia).
