Hotel Review: Executive Queen Room at the Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel (San Antonio, Texas)

Situated along San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk, the Wyndham couldn’t be better located for the visiting tourist. A short walk to the city’s entertainment area and tourist hotspot The Alamo, the sizable 410 room hotel, spread over 21 floors, serves as an excellent port for both business guests, tourists and their families.

As with any hotel chain these days, the Wyndham immediately lets you know about their “priority guest” service on arrival, by way of a ropes off area for their most frequent guests. Arriving early in the evening, no division was necessary however, and the courteous staff were quick to check us in. We enjoyed an “Executive Queen Room” on the 19th floor, which provides the guest with complimentary water bottles, robes, a bath and shower, as well as a well-sized desk with an ergonomic chair for comfort. Wifi was readily available and included in with the room. And as for the view? Well, it looked a little something like this:

The beds were comfortable and there was no problems getting the room fully serviced daily, with the usual “leave your towel on the floor if you want a new one” rule. There is also a turn down service and the obligatory chocolate on a pillow is included. In other words, they deliver everything you would expect from a three and a half or four star hotel like this, and they do it well.

A nicely sized LCD TV is featured in every room, with a tonne of channels, from film to sports to news and comedy. There are, naturally, pay-per-view options as well. While we didn’t take a dip in the outdoor pool it’s hard to argue it wasn’t tempting:

Their breakfast buffet is up to scratch, though not included with your stay, and will add about US$15 to your daily bill, should you choose to enjoy it. Still, with a late service (until midday on weekends and 10.30am on weekdays) and a wide selection of breakfast treats, it’s not a bad option to get the day started at all. Room service is also available, and the restaurant will also serve a la carte while the buffet is on, should you be looking for a more specific (and potentially more affordable) option. But be warned you may feel some envy if you do turn down the buffet. With an omelette bar, fresh pancakes and everything you need to make your own breakfast tacos (YES!), alongside fruit, toast and cereals, it’s a satisfying selection. The omelette chef made some particularly decent ones, too.

Parking at the hotel is a bit on the expensive side, especially if you’re staying for a few nights. So, considering that much of the city has great public transport or is walkable, and there’s a readily available Uber service, you may even consider skipping the car rental all together.

Room service, including alcohol delivery, is available up until 1am, and a bar downstairs will welcome you until about midnight should you be looking for a more social engagement. You won’t have to walk far for other food and drink options, with plenty available in the surrounding area, or by a short taxi ride away. All in all this is a terrifically comfortable hotel, sitting at a healthy price point (starting from about AU$180 a night) in a very convenient location. Make sure to hit the Riverwalk during your stay too!

The hotel is located at 111 East Pecan Street in San Antonio. For more details head to their official website.

The writer’s three night stay was kindly supported by the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau, Texas Tourism and the Wyndham Riverwalk San Antonio.
