New Zealand’s capital of Wellington has sprung to life with a variety of unmissable events to welcome in Autumn, particularly a big street festival celebrating one of the most famous areas of the city, Cuba Street. With more cafes, bars and restaurants per capita than hustle-and-bustle New York City, Wellington is also known as “the world’s coolest little city”, a name also earned thanks to its vibrant and progressive culture, as well as its love of the outdoors. An easy place to navigate as a visitor, Wellington has become fast known as one of the most ideal for those hopping between the many events to celebrate life in this beautiful harbour city.
CubaDupa 2016
Wellington’s Cuba Street will put on a street festival to end all street festivals with CubaDupa 2016, from 19th – 20th March. Celebrating the creative spirit of Cuba Street, and the Wellington community, CubaDupa’s lineup includes:
- Enjoy dance performances, or take part in workshops and learn some new dance moves. Taikoza and Kodama Taiko Japanese Drummers will be performing through the streets, while Batucada groups from NZ and Australia compete for the most impressive costumes and performances filling the streets with Latin beats
- Get your grub on with the Street Food Festival and relish in the vast array of gastronomic delights.
- The Mass Cuba St. Orchestra and Adam Page return to showcase the talents of Wellington’s brilliant professional musicians
- Check out the three CubaDupa Stages, and catch Latin American, Balkan, Afro beats, New Orleans, Gypsy, Motown, Rock, Opera, Orchestra music and more!
Events such as CubaDupa highlight Wellington as a city filled with warmth, personality and spirit. So whether you’re wandering the neighbourhood around Cuba Street or honouring the ANZACs at the Te Papa Museum for the Gallipoli: The Scale of our War exhibition (which is still running!), you’ll find something memorable and exciting this month should you be touching down in New Zealand’s capital of cool.
