Starting in just a few weeks, Qantas will be rolling out a new partnership with Stan which will see the Australian SVOD service incorporated into the airline’s in-flight entertainment. When the roll out is completed all domestic Qantas flights will have full access to Stan’s comprehensive library available for passengers travelling across the country.
The appearance of Stan on Qantas flights also marks the airline’s roll-out of free WiFi, which will be available on select B737 aircraft initially before being introduced on the rest of their domestic A330 and B737 aircraft from the middle of this year. The introduction of free in-flight Wi-Fi to Qantas’ domestic fleet was first announced early last year, with the award-winning airline bringing the service to their customers through ViaSat, a technology which taps into the NBN network using satellites. It’s being said that speeds will reach up to around 20Mps, which around 10 times faster than many in-flight WiFi services in other countries.
The deal with Stan works in a slightly similar capacity to the airline’s other partnerships with Netflix, Spotify and Foxtel in that passengers who book with Qantas will be offered a free subscription included in their fare to use both during and after the flight. The different here is that Stan are offering passengers a three-month subscription, whereas Netflix and Spotify subscriptions are both one-month, and Foxtel’s offering sits a three-day trial subscription
The Stan deal comes after Qantas announced deals with Netflix, Spotify and Foxtel last month. But unlike Stan’s three months, Foxtel will only offer passengers a three-day trial subscription, and Netflix and Spotify are offering a one-month subscription.
Currently the impressive Stan library is standing proudly with all available episodes of classics like Friends, Seinfeld and Fringe, as well as ongoing favourites like Better Call Saul, Sherlock, Billions and Underground. For a full look at Stan’s program head to the service’s official website HERE
