Mantra Group will be bringing a high-profile opening to Launceston in Tasmania next year when it welcomes the 108-room Silo Hotel to the Peppers brand. Reimagining the Kings Wharf grain silos of the city, the $25 million redevelopment will make unique use of the location, with 52 of the 108 rooms location in the barrels of the former silo, overlooking the city’s nearby tourist essentials of Seaport, Royal Park, the Tamar River Basin and Cataract Gorge. Four large apartments will be located on the top floor, while a restaurant and cocktail bar, as well as a large meeting room, will be built on the first floor.
“The consistently high-performing hotel market in Launceston, combined with the ideal location of Peppers Silo Hotel and its unique market drivers, presented us with an exceptional opportunity to add to our existing portfolio of two hotels in the city”, said Mantra Group Chief Executive Officer Bob East. “This acquisition comes at an opportune time in the Tasmania tourism market, with the state currently enjoying the record domestic and international visitation”.
Positioned on the corner of Lindsay Street and Kings Wharf Road, the property faces the Tamar River which will provide guests with uninterrupted water views as well as views over the many vantage points around Launceston.
The hotel is the third management agreement between Mantra Group and developer Stewart, Morris & MacLagen Group, following the city’s Peppers Seaport Hotel and Peppers York Cove in the Tamar Valley.
Silo Hotel will open in Launceston in 2018.
