After taking the top spot last weekend with $2.6 million from advanced screenings, it is not a surprise that Seth Rogen / Zac Efron comedy Bad Neighbours took the top spot again this past weekend, raking in another $4.7 million. The film has been a huge hit so far both here and in the US, and is sitting at a very comfortable 74% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, which also stars Aussie Rose Byrne in another movie-stealing role, should continue to do big business for the next couple of weeks, given the lack of comedy options for young people at the moment.
The other new releases in the Top 10 were Jon Favreau’s Chef and period drama Belle, which did well to come in at #8 given the lack of a huge star on the poster and minimal advertising. Both films have been well received so it’s great to see them crack the chart! This is sounding like a broekn record but Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel remained strong again over the weekend; Australian audiences are clearly loving the film, which many consider to be Anderson’s best film to date.

The biggest new release for the coming week is Gareth Edwards’ reboot of Godzilla. The film has been gaining steady buzz since it was announced, and early reviews suggest that the it rights many of the wrongs of the 1998 film. Audiences are sure to flock to see the legendary monster back on the big screen. In smaller release will be Oscar nominated Belgian drama The Broken Circle Breakdown, and Terry Gilliam’s latest The Zero Theorem, which stars Christoph Waltz and David Thewlis. See our review here!
