After making his first appearance during the credits of 2012’s The Avengers, it has been expected that comic book supervillain Thanos would be taking on a large antagonistic role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanos’ next appearance will be in the upcoming Marvel space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy and, while Marvel is yet to make an official statement regarding the matter, it is being widely reported that Josh Brolin has been cast in the role. Thanos is also set to appear in next year’s much anticipated sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron. While Brolin will only be providing the voice of Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, it is currently unknown whether he will portray the character via motion capture for Age of Ultron. Believed to be appearing in somewhat of a cameo in Guardians, it is likely that Thanos’ role will be increased gradually throughout the Marvel films of the next few years until he appears as the main villain in The Avengers 3. Marvel has a proven track record of selecting great actors to portray their villains, particularly in the case of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. They have also made the incredibly left-field yet intriguing choice to cast James Spader as Ultron in Age of Ultron, and we are sure that both Spader and Brolin will give us phenomenal villains for the next era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Guardians of the Galaxy, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, will be released in Australian cinemas on August 7th.
