David Fincher’s Gone Girl has proven itself to be the must-see movie of the moment by smashing the competition to take the top spot at the Australian box office for the second weekend in a row. The film made an incredible $4.1 million over the weekend, only dropping around $0.6 million from last weekend, which is an incredibly small drop for a new blockbuster film. Critics and audiences have been raving about the film, which managed to fight off the debut of the other major adult drama of the season, The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. The Judge was unable to overtake holdovers Annabelle and Dracula Untold, instead settling in fourth spot. This result is similar to its debut in the US, where it opened in fifth, and understandable given the phenomenal success of Gone Girl.

There are four new major releases opening this week and they are an interesting bunch of films. We have Liam Neeson’s latest revenge drama A Walk Among the Tombstones, psychological thriller Before I Go to Sleep starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth, comedy Tammy starring Melissa McCarthy and prison drama Son of a Gun starring Ewan McGregor and Aussie Brenton Thwaites.
A Walk Among the Tombstones, Before I Go to Sleep, Tammy and Son of a Gun will be releases in Australian cinemas this Thursday October 16.
