Stewart, who became the host of The Daily Show in 1999, has had a huge influence on American politics and satire. It won the outstanding variety series Emmy continuously for ten years.

He spoke about leaving on Tuesday night’s show:

He became the nation’s chief satirist, and imbued the program with a great sense of justice. Considering that a large portion of the audience had lost its faith in media outlets, he turned The Daily Show into an influential platform for news and media commentary, locally in the states and around the world.

Hold back the tears, it’ll be alright.
