Lee Daniels’ challenging and confronting film is based on the novel Push by Sapphire. Precious (Gabourey Sidibe) is a struggling teen in Harlem, pregnant for the second time and suffering abuse from her mother. The film follows her efforts to better her life and get an education. Sidibe plays Precious with heart and soul, while Paula Patton and Mariah Carey offer strong supporting performances. Mo’Nique also puts in a fearsome turn as Precious’ abusive mother.

Skyfall – GO! – 8:30 pm AEST
Whether or not you are a James Bond fan, with Sam Mendes at the helm of Skyfall and Daniel Craig imbuing Bond with gritty realism, this film transcends the franchise while preserving its best elements. Bond’s loyalty to M (the always wonderful Judi Dench) is tested as MI6 comes under attack. It is up to Bond to destroy the threat. Within this archetypal Bond narrative, Mendes brings out the dark and personal elements in the story to great effect.
The Lincoln Lawyer – Ch. 9 – 9:45pm AEST
A legal thriller that is intelligent and witty; Matthew McConaughey stars as defence attorney Mickey Haller who works out of the back of his car. However, when rich client (Ryan Phillippe) pays for his services, Haller becomes dragged into a twisted plot that he’ll need to untangle himself from. McConaughey is as charismatic as ever, exuding confidence in every scene.
