We “interview” Grumpy Cat and “talk” about the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Because why not?

Earlier today, a certain cat won the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award for “Aussie/Kiwi’s Favourite Animal”. Before he won, we asked the infamous Tardar Sauce aka Grumpy Cat a few questions about things that are pretty unimpressive like movies, awards, and living in a world of celebrities. Yes, that’s right… we had the chance to do what so many wish for in their lives, but very few actually get to do – talk to an internet meme.

I have to ask, what’s it like living a life of such wide spread fame? Is it ever difficult being such a highly recognisable celebrity?

In a word, it’s terrible. In two words…Really terrible.

How was your transition from internet to movie and even book stardom? Do you find people easy to work with or endlessly tiring?

I try to nap through as much of it as possible. I didn’t even know about my Christmas movie until this February.

You’ve been nominated for the award of ‘AussieKiwi’s Favourite Animal’ at Nickelodeon’s 28th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards, how did you take the news? Do you feel limited by your species or are your eyes already set on Best Actress?

When I heard about the nomination I immediately woke up and thought about what an honour it was. Then I immediately went back to sleep and had dreams about fish.

I’m a pessimist, so I find everything limiting. A lot of limits come with winning Best Actress too. Like having to care. Or show up to set in the first place.

Will you be heading to the Awards, and if so are you looking forward to the ceremony? Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas, 5SOS, there’s some big names associated with it, will you dignify them with a glance?

It pains my better judgement, I’ll be headed to the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. I may glance at the other celebrities. But I’ll make sure not to look impressed in front of them.

Any chance for an Australian tour or just not that fussed about the whole deadly outback thing?

I’ve thought about living the koala’s life, but you may need to petition the government quarantine rules to make it happen. Quarantine would make me extra grumpy.

What’s next for Grumpy Cat? Do you have any slightly exciting projects you’re working on right now?

I wouldn’t want to disappoint my fans by doing anything exciting. You’ve got to stay true to your roots.

How do you feel about your fans? Begrudging admiration or standard tolerance?

The fans are truly what got me here. So I’ve either got to thank them, or blame them. Either way they’re on Team Grumpy.

You’ve returned to SXSW this year did you have any highlights or was it all fairly meh?

It was the South By South Worst.

Are there any memes you’ve had your image used in that just make you want to facepalm? Do you face the mortal problem of an unflattering picture or video going viral?

I hate them all equally.

Do you, if its even possible, have a favourite meme of yours?

The one that says “NO”.

What are your thoughts on Aubrey Plaza? Do you find her to be a kindred spirit or just another person not afraid to show how unimpressed they are?

We have a very special relationship. It’s rare to find someone as equally grumpy as myself, but somehow she does it.

And lastly a final hard hitting question a few people have asked; crunchy or smooth peanut butter?

I had peanut butter once. It was awful.
