In exciting news for Nirvana fans, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Brett Morgen’s Cobain: Montage of Heck is set to have a limited release in Australian cinemas, premiering on May 7. The film is the first fully-authorised documentary about the life of the legendary frontman Kurt Cobain, featuring exclusive interviews with friends and family as well as home video footage which has never before been seen by the public eye.
Morgen was granted “unfettered access to Kurt’s possessions”, gifted to him by Cobain’s wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean Cobain, a visual artist who was also an Executive Producer of the film. Says Morgen; “there were over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects, countless hours of home movies and over 4,000 pages of writings, which together provided a new perspective on an influential and prolific artist who rarely revealed himself to the media”.
At eight years in the making, Cobain: Montage of Heck is a true labour of love and essential viewing for all diehard fans of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. And as if seeing the film on the silver screen isn’t enough, screenings of the documentary will also feature an exclusive interview with Morgen, where he discusses his experiences making the film.
