Palace Cinemas in Sydney and Melbourne are commemorating the centenary anniversary of the Gallipoli landing and recognising ANZAC Day with two days of screenings of the iconic Australian film Gallipoli, directed by Peter Weir and starring Mel Gibson.
The 1981 film is about the brutality of the Gallipoli campaign, and stars Gibson as a young Western Australian boy, who slowly loses his innocence during the campaign, which culminates in the treacherous Battle of the Nek in 1915. The campaign was futile and resulted in the loss of hundreds of Australian soldiers. Gallipoli also stars Mark Lee and iconic Australian actor Bill Hunter.
The film will screen at the Kino Cinema in Melbourne, and the Palace Norton Street in Sydney, on the 25th and 26th of April. Visit the Palace Cinemas website for session times.
