Sydney Film Festival Brings Mathlete Love Story to Casula

X plus Y

In the fourth of Sydney Film Festival’s new monthly screenings in Western Sydney, British film X+Y is set to play at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The film is a moving romantic drama about a teenage maths prodigy whose world is rocked by a fellow ‘mathlete’ at an international competition. X+Y stars Asa Butterfield, as a brilliant maths whiz kid and Jo Yang as his beautiful counterpart, competitor and love interest from China. Directed by Morgan Matthews, the family friendly film is inspired by his 2007 documentary Beautiful Young Minds, and also stars Sally Hawkins, Rafe Spall and Eddie Marsan.

Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley says X+Y is a “wonderfully intelligent and captivating story that explores important issues, including education and disability”. Director of Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Kierstan Fishburn, is equally excited about the screening, praising X+Y as “the perfect treat for a Saturday at the Casula Powerhouse-a terrific film for both young and old that inspires as much as it entertains”.

The screening kicks off at 7.30pm on May 2. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for concession and $10 for kids under 16 years. To purchase your tickets or get further information about the screening, head to http://www.casulapowerhouse.com/booknow/
