Our ten favourite Dinosaurs from the history of cinema and TV…

With Jurassic World returning us to the iconic cinematic series next Thursday, June 11th, and The Good Dinosaur releasing in November through the masters at Pixar, the prehistoric creatures are getting some pretty high exposure on the big screen this year. But dinosaurs have been a feature of cinema since the days of silent cinema – take 1925’s The Lost World for starters. Here now we look back at some of our favourite dinosaurs from the century of cinema and television…

rex-toy-story

“What if Andy gets another dinosaur? A mean one? I just don’t think I can take that kind of rejection!”

Rex from the Toy Story series is probably our favourite dinosaur of all time. How can you not love Rex?

littlefoot

Then there’s Littlefoot and friends in The Land Before Time, the now classic 1988 animation.

trex

The T-Rex from Jurassic Park (1993). Have you rewatched the film lately? It holds up so well thanks to the brilliant animatronics and puppetry used in lieu of computer graphics. And those scenes with that magnificent T-Rex really are as powerful as ever.

kingkong-dino

Those Dinosaurs that King Kong battled in 1933… and we guess also in 2005. The scenes here really were revolutionary at the time, and though it is certainly dated now, it’s a landmark moment in dinosaurs appearing on the screen…

dino

Dino in The Flintstones Movie (1994) and of course in the original TV series… who didn’t want a pet dinosaur?

godzilla

Titanosaurus from Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975). What even is that?

reptar

We couldn’t do this list without including Reptar from The Rugrats TV series and films. Are we getting nostalgic enough for you?

dorothy-the-dinosaur

It would be un-Australian not to include Dorothy the Dinosaur on this list… UNAUSTRALIAN.

theodore-rex

Does anyone else remember Theodore Rex (1995)? There’s probably a reason for this. But we felt he deserved to be included in this list, because if you refuse to remember him, we will do that for you…

dinosaurs-tv-show

And we end our list with the surprisingly long running TV series Dinosaurs (with 65 episodes between 1991 ad 1994), starring the Sinclair family – just your average family of dinosaurs. Kick the Baby!
