The Scandinavian Film Festival is ecstatic to announce its full line-up of 22 feature films that are set to play at the festival this year, framed by the witty opening night comedy Here Is Harold (Her Er Harold) and closing night film Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words (Jag ar Ingrid). This documentary is set to be a particular highlight of the festival, as it arrives fresh from its world premiere at Cannes and sees Stig Bjorkman deliver a revelatory depiction of Ingrid Bergman’s personal life through her diary, interviews with family members and never-before-seen private footage.
Other highlights of the festival include the Australian premier of Grimur Hakonarson’s Rams (Hrutar), which will take place at Palace Cinemas. Hakonarson’s film took out the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes this year, with Cannes Jury President Isabella Rossellini stating it was honoured for “treating in a masterful, tragicomic way the undeniable bond that links all humans to animals.”
If you happen to be in either Sydney or Melbourne during the festival’s duration, you’ll be lucky enough to catch Swedish-Finnish actress and well-known comedian Bianca Kronlof, who will be in attendance for the respective opening nights of her new film Underdog (Svenskjavel), as well as taking part in an exclusive Q&A following the screenings. The film sees Kronlof play 23-year-old Dino, who has fled the mass unemployment of her home country in search of a more worthwhile existence in Oslo, Norway, only to end up in the centre of an intense and scandalous love triangle.
This year, the Scandinavian Film Festival is particularly proud to present a number of films which feature the stories of strong female protagonists, including Danish Academy Award winning director Bille August’s Silent Heart (Stille Hjerte), Jorn Donner’s Armi Alive! (Armi Elaa!) and Hella Joof’s All Inclusive.
