Our favourite boutique bar and cinema, Golden Age, is going to be holding exclusive Sydney screenings of the film Eden, charting the rise of “French Touch” house music, a genre that heralded the likes of Daft Punk and Cassius. There have been five screenings announced, which kick off this Thursday. Accompanying the Friday screening will also be Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls (1995) and Saturday will be Daft Punk’s Electroma (2006) alongside a Original Roman DJ Set.
The full schedule is below:
Thurs 25 June: 6pm & 8.30pm – Eden
Fri 26 June: 6.30pm – Eden; 9pm – Showgirls
Sat 27 June: 6pm – Eden; 8.30pm – Daft Punk’s Electroma + Original Roman DJ set
and… Wednesday July 1st at 6pm!
More about the film:
Through the eyes of one of the genre’s most devoted disciples, aspiring DJ Paul (Félix de Givry), Eden spins and scratches through illegal underground Parisian raves, to legendary dance parties at MoMA’s PS1 in New York, to the eventual ubiquitousness of the modern DJ.
Director Mia Hansen-Løve’s last film Goodbye First Love (2011) was a hit at the Alliance Française French Film Festival, and her film Father of My Children (2009) won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. For Eden, Hansen-Løve was inspired by the real-life experiences of her brother, Sven Hansen-Løve, who co-wrote the film.
A spectacular panorama of faces and bodies, rushes of cascading light and colour, and of course, music, Eden pulsates with the reckless heartbeat of youth.
