Jurassic World sees your war for #1 spot and scoffs. In its second week, one of cinema’s biggest franchises just keeps on trucking as Jurassic World cleaned up another $9.8 million in the Australian box office over the weekend, an impressive feat indeed after a stellar opening last week ($16 million).

Those irresistible Minions and the magic of Disney/Pixar just weren’t enough to take top spot, although the two family friendly films did wonderfully as school holidays approach – Minions sits at number 2 with $5.8 million and Inside Out rests comfortably behind it earning itself $3.8 million. Both films should continue to do well in the weeks to come, with family audiences being split between the top three films – and younger families between the two.

Jurassic also dominated in the USA for the second consecutive weekend, while it set the record for the fastest film to ever hit $1B worldwide in just 12 days, and set the record for highest grossing film in its second weekend of all time. Between this and Furious 7, this is an incredible year for Universal Pictures.

The top 10 is rounded out by some familiar titles that are still doing some solid numbers; Spy takes 4th spot earning $741,370; Entourage drops to 5th raking in $683,393; Mad Max: Fury Road continues to impress at 6th spot making $404,255 and San Andreas sees the week out at 7th place taking home $405,544 .

The one real spanner in the works for Jurassic World’s top spot next week will be Ted 2, the sequel to Seth MacFarlane’s 2012’s comedy smash starring Mark Wahlberg. Ted did extremely well for itself, going on to become the 12th highest grossing film of 2012 so time will tell if the second installment can do the same.
