It’s state against state and mate against mate as the NSW Blues and Queensland Maroons take to the field for the final match in this year’s State of Origin series. With both sides having a win to their name this is sure to be one gripping game. Though Queensland will have the home side advantage, its unlikely NSW will be willing to give up the shield without a fight. Pick your side and tune in for a big night of footy.

If you’re looking for some great Australian TV look no further than Glitch, a new series starring Patrick Brammal and Genevieve O’Reilly. Set in a the fictional country town of Yaroona, Glitch explores the supernatural series of events dealt with by policeman James Hayes (Brammal) which kick off when six people rise from their graves in the local cemetery. Hayes must not only explore how and why this phenomenon has occurred, but he also has to protect the newly risen from his colleague Vic (Andrew McFarlane). A show about Aussie zombies? Consider us excited.

Iron Man-Seven-8.30pm AEST
With the newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Ant-Man, hitting cinemas next week, it’s well worth taking a trip back to the movie where it all began. Before The Avengers assembled Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) was just a humble playboy billionaire philanthropist, but when he is kidnapped by a terrorist group known as the Ten Rings he builds the Iron Man suit and quickly begins a new life as a superhero. Love it or hate it, Iron Man has a lot to do with the current superhero trend on our movie screens, and it is arguably both a highpoint of the genre and a modern classic.

It has been some time since Paul McDermott has been a regular on our TV screens, but thankfully he is back with new SBS series Room 101. Adapted from the British series of the same name, the show sees McDermott inviting celebrity guests to share some of their biggest fears and frustrations. Tune in this weekend to catch a double episode featuring the likes of Julia Zemiro and Dave Hughes.

Continue your hero high from Iron Man by catching the exploits of the super powered Parr family in Pixar’s hit film The Incredibles. The movie sees forcefully retired (and married) heroes Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) don their costumes one more time to take on a dangerous new super villain with a personal vendetta. But things quickly get complicated when their kids come along for the ride.

True Detective-Showcase-3.30pm/7.30pm AEST
If you haven’t been watching the second season of True Detective, it’s not too late to catch up. With Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) now eternally entranced by the Louisiana moonlight, the show has moved to the Californian coastline and features a new cast of characters led by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn. This season is set in the fictional and highly corrupt town of Vinci, which quickly falls apart at the seams when the body of city manager Ben Caspere is discovered by a highway patrol officer (Taylor Kitsch). While this season got off to a slower start than the first, the conspiracy which is quickly unraveling is proving to be just as enthralling a mystery as that encountered by Cohle and Hart.

12 Years A Slave-Masterpiece Movies-10.20pm AEST
Based on the memoirs of Solomon Northrup, there is no denying that 12 Years A Slave is a modern classic. Directed by Steve McQueen and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northrup, the film took out the Best Prize at the 2014 Academy Awards, as well as Best Adapted Screenplay for writer John Ridley and Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o. The true story depicts the struggles of Northrup across the titular time period, as the free African-American man is kidnapped from his hometown and wrongfully sold into a life of slavery. A confronting and inspiring film that is very much worth your time.
