Fear the Walking Dead the anticipated spin-off series that was inspired by The Walking Dead is almost here, and San Diego’s Comic-Con became the platform for the first full trailer from AMC. Details already leaked earlier this year indicate that the series will be a prequel of sorts to The Walking Dead, detailing the spread of the virus with that visceral sense of dread that accompanies all good disaster and post-apocalyptic projects.
In the trailer, what appears to be the first infection is revealed, in the streets of glossy L.A. From there we follow one family as the city finds out about the virus through social media, leading to an inevitable panic and what looks to be a whole heap of gory action. The look of the show is significantly different from the bleak post-outbreak world of The Walking Dead, with ‘Fear’ giving us what TWD never could: the build-up.
Feat the Walking Dead stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, House of Cards) in lead role as Madison, Cliff Curtis (Gang Related) as Travis, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Nick, and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) as Alicia. Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black) will also join as a cast regular, portraying Liza, along with Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal) as Ofelia.
The show’s first season will consist of six one-hour episodes and will premiere on AMC on August 23rd (meaning August 24th in Australia). It has already been confirmed for a second season which will air next year.
