Last weekend, we caught up with Clive Standen from Vikings at Oz Comic-Con to talk at length about his work in the series, and other pursuits. In the final two parts of our interview, we talk about his experiences filming the acclaimed series and his work with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
“There’s no acting required,” Standen remarks, referring to the setting which allows the actors to feel as though they have stepped back in time, complete with a Blacksmith and boats. As no day is the same, Standen can’t wait to get up in the morning despite being shattered the day before. A standard day involves a lot of time and effort to get lines soaked into the muscle memory, with injuries included.
Apart from acting, Clive Standen has been active in the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society for 5-6 years now, with a long standing passion for conservation and the ocean. Standen compares Sea Shepherd to Vikings due to their use of direct action when protecting marine life. Donning a Sea Shepherd shirt, Standen admits to being very “misguided … and having a new found respect for Great White Sharks” after receiving a proper educational lesson about the animals after swimming with them in South Africa.
