All surviving Monty Python re-unite (again) with Simon Pegg, Robin Williams, Eddie Izzard and more for Absolutely Anything

Terry Jones – the Python who was the credited Director for The Meaning of Life, Life of Brian and The Holy Grail (just three of the funniest films of all time… no big deal) – has managed to get all the Pythons (sans the late Chapman) together in a scripted film for the first time since The Meaning of Life. They’re playing the voices of Aliens – but they’re all there! Adding some rather sombre – but much welcomed – icing on the cake is that the film will also mark Robin Williams‘ final appearance in a film, albeit in voice form only, playing a talking dog.

The film – which is released nationally next month – is something of a Bruce Almighty meets Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, as school teacher Neil Clarke (Pegg) is  given the power to do anything he wants (he is, essentially, God) by the Pythons – re-imagined here as a group of aliens keen to play a bit of a game with the Planet Earth. The game? See if Pegg’s Clarke will use his powers for good or for evil. If he uses it for evil, they’ll destroy the Earth. If he uses it for good, they won’t. He has no idea of the plans, or why he has the powers, but judging by the trailer, he wishes for most of the things we, too, would wish for if we suddenly had the power. You can watch the trailer below.

Sadly, the film has received pretty average reviews in its UK run – but Python and Williams fans will (and should) come out for the film regardless. In addition to the mentioned, the film also features Kate Beckinsale, Joanna Lumley and Eddie Izzard.
