Capcom have announced that Street Fighter V will get a second multiplayer beta later this month. PlayStation 4 owners will get access first on October 22. The PC version will come online October 24. Plus, and this is big, cross-platform will also be made available for the first time.
The beta will provide six playable characters – Ken, Necalli, Vega, R. Mika, Rashid and Karin. Rashid won’t appear until October 23, however, and Karin won’t show up in the roster until October 24. The first beta featured Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, Birdie, Nash and M. Bison but it doesn’t appear that any of them will be back for Beta 2.
Beta 2 will have ranked matchmaking, combined leaderboards across PC and PS4 versions, profile search for finding your friends and enemies and a few unlockables that can be bought with Fight Money, the in-game currency earned by playing the game itself. Don’t go crazy trying to accrue it, though. Capcom says it won’t carry over to any future betas or the release version.
The first Street Fighter V global beta went off back in July but didn’t meet Capcom’s expectations and was quickly pulled for further work. The developer warns that there are no guarantees a similar fate won’t befall Beta 2. We won’t be too mad if it happens – that’s what these tests are for.
The beta news comes as Capcom announced a new character for the game at Brazil Game Show. Laura Matsuda is a jiu-jitsu style fighter, the first of her kind in the series history. Her style is all about grappling but also features a projectile attack called Thunder Clap that stuns opponents, making her very dangerous at close or mid range. Check out her announcement trailer above.
