For the second week straight, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 leads the charge against its blockbuster brethren Spectre.
Despite earning US$100 million less in its second week, Hunger Games still sits on top both here and in The States. It made AU$5.2 million and kept the new Bond film to AU$3.4 million.
Not to be overshadowed however, Spectre has crept up to become the second most successful Bond film ever, both domestically in the US and worldwide. It still has a lot of work to do to catch Skyfall.
The sequel to Hotel Transylvania debuted in Australia in third spot with AU$2.1 million. It bettered the opening weekend of its predecessor by US$6 million.
The latest film in the Rocky series, Creed, debuted at fourth spot here and third in the states, giving it the second worst opening in the series, just behind the universally maligned Rocky V with US$29 million over there and a bit under AU$2 Million here.
Two other new contenders made their mark too. Love the Coopers debuted at sixth spot with AU$392k while the poorly reviewed Angelina Jolie’s By The Sea opened at 9th making a meager AU$139k.

This week sees the release of In the Heart of the Sea, the story of Moby Dick starring Chris Hemsworth and directed by Ron Howard.
