Paul Ireland and Damian Hill prevailed over the long weekend, as their latest opus Pawno opened to positive reviews and a generous box office.
The film, a gritty story revolving around a pawnshop in Footscray, opened over the ANZAC day long weekend to an average of $3,120 per showing on a selected nineteen screens.
Local audiences were particularly eager, with The Sun in Yarraville, Melbourne, recording especially strong results for the gala premiere.
David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz, perhaps finding the first thing they’ve agreed on since At The Movies, both gave the film positive reviews.
The film, which received myriad success in International film festivals, stars Kerry Armstrong (Lantana), Tony Rickards (Holding The Man) and Mark Coles Smith (Last Cab to Darwin) and takes a look at the multicultural mixing pot of Barkly Street, suburban Melbourne.
Pawno is open nationally.
