Yesterday ABC made the announcement that they will be taking in a new drama series titled Newton’s Law. Furthermore, production is currently underway in Melbourne for the eight-part series.
Newton’s Law was an original concept developed by Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger who were the shakers behind the success of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and The Gods of Wheat Street series. Newton’s Law follows the story of Josephine Newton, a suburban solicitor who is an overly responsible woman, and decides to make her return to her briefly glorious stint at the Bar.
As her solicitor practice falls through by a disgruntled client, her uni friend and secret admirer, Lewis Hughes convinces Josephine to trade her brilliant mind and attempt to make her mark in Knox Chambers. With her marriage crumbling and motherhood losing its charm, she strives to make a return back to her rightfully owned barrister’s robes.
Fiona and Deb say, “We’re very happy to bring another strong female protagonist to the screen, this time in modern dress, with a modern woman’s dilemma of trying to do too much for too many!”
ABC Director of Television Richard Finlayson says “Thanks to the ongoing support of Screen Australia as well as the ABC’s partnership with Film Victoria on the Victorian Drama and Comedy Initative, we are pleased to be able to commission another outstanding drama from Every Cloud Productions. Our audience is in for a treat.”

Newton’s Law will commence filming in Melbourne later in the year.
