EA have used their EA Play press event to announce EA Originals, a program designed to give independent developers the support they need to complete and release their games.
EA Originals will be an imprint for games that are “unique, gorgeous, innovative and memorable,” said exective vice president of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund. The program will “support small developers and (help) them make the most of our games.” EA will do this by providing funds for marketing, development and publishing. Soderlund went on to say that the bulk of the profits will go straight to the developers.
Soderlund then threw to Klaus Lyngeled of Zoink Games, based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Zoink are working on Fe, the first EA Originals title. Fe is “a personal narrative about our relationship with nature,” said Lyngeled. “It’s a story that reminds us that everything in this world is connected.” The game has you play a young cub that finds itself alone in the forest without any clue as to who they are or how they got there. Fe asks the player to become one with the forest, learn its languages.
Zoink have not announced a release date or platforms at this stage.
