Reggie Watts – former”band leader” on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! and now actual band leader on CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden, caught up with us a while back to chat about a bunch of things. During our conversation we brought up this hilarious faux retro game feature for the hilarious “Grandma’s Bath”:
This developed into a general chat about some of Reggie’s favourite video games of all time:
“I loved Zaxxonwhen it came out. That was a nice video game. And I loved Pitfall. That was great.”
For those not in the know, the former is an 80’s arcade shooter and the latter is an 80’s adventure title; both of which appeared on the Atari 2600. He went on to talk about some of his more recent loves…
“I liked Mario Kart... I mainly WATCHED people play Mario Kart though.There was a period of time when I played video games, when I was a kid, when I moved in Seattle in like 1990, and the SNES came out. I just didn’t understand the complex controllers. Like having a thumb stick, and a button on the side. I was just used to the one stick and the one button, but I loved going over to peoples houses and watching them play video games. My next door neighbours were weed dealers and they’d just sit around and play video games and sell weed.”
As for what he’s actually played since then?
“When I started playing again, it was on the Dreamcast. Resident Evil 2was the first game I played and it scared the crap out of me, but it was an amazing game. And then when the first Halocame out (on Xbox), that was just awesome. Really great game.”
