Quite a few names have been floating around in recent months as to the actress who would be cast in the iconic role of Captain Marvel, for Marvel’s stand-alone Cinematic Universe (MCU) film of the same name. One of these names has been Academy Award winner Brie Larson (Room) and this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con it was confirmed that she would take on the character for the film, expected to be released in March 2019.

The announcement came at the end of Marvel’s Comic-Con International presentation, which was held off the back of the buzz from the Wonder Woman panel – with Warner Bros. beating Marvel to the punch with a female-fronted superhero film two years ahead of Captain Marvel. In addition to revealing Brie – they also revealed the new logo for the film, which accompanies a new logo for the studio, which a keen eye will spot on Brie’s hat at the top of this article. That logo will enter use from Doctor Strange, later this year. And as for the Captain Marvel logo?
The only other details we know about the film – other than the proposed 8 March 2019 release date – is that the screenwriters are Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out). A director has yet to be announced, and it is, in fact, the only MCU film currently on the schedule to be sans (announced) director. But with three years to wait, and seven MCU films between now and then, they’ve got plenty of time to tell us everything we need to know about the final standalone film of MCU’s phase three. Stay tuned to The Iris for all the details.
