New Line Cinema has already ordered a Lights Out sequel

As Lights Out continues its surge through the box office, now accumulating as much as US$27 million in domestic sales since its July 22nd release, New Line Cinema have already ordered a successor to the film.

David F. Sandberg and his wife Lotta Losten are reportedly both to return to work on Lights Out 2, along with screenwriter Eric Heisserer and producer James Wan, however there is yet to be any announcement on the cast.

The premise for the film came from Sandberg’s short film of the same name that won him a best director in a popular British film festival. The Swedish director is also in talk with Newline about turning another of his short horror films into a franchise. And continuing his man of the moment status, Sandberg will take the reigns on the Annabelle sequel, which is set for a May release next year.

Lights Out is in cinemas now.
