Finding Dory was a sequel 13 years in the making, but it appears it was worth the wait. Pixar have romped it in at the box office this year with Finding Dory their fourth film to exceed the worldwide US$900 million box office mark this year.
Dory currently sits at a worldwide box office figure of US$900.7 million, making it the fourth highest grossing film of 2016 so far. The top three are also Disney releases. The Jungle Book has pulled in $947 million in position three while Zootopia and Captain America: Civil War have both cracked the billion mark to occupy the top two spots respectively.
Ellen DeGeneres’ video promoting Australia’s continued protection of the Great Barrier Reef rubbed Liberal MP Greg Hunt all up the wrong way earlier this year. The video coincided with the release of the film, which is set on the reef, and gave rise to something of a Twitter rant by Hunt. Yet, the Australian public appear to be Ellen’s side with Finding Dory the highest grossing film in Australia this year so far at A$48.2 million – which sits it as the tenth highest grossing film of all time, just behind Skyfall.
