Australian Box Office Report: We still can’t get enough of Suicide Squad

So if you’re over superhero films, Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, you will not be happy to hear that Suicide Squad remains top of the Box Office ladder this week, its third week in no. 1 since its premiere week.

The DC Comics’ supervillains remain in top spot with AU$3.18 million made this week, followed by Bad Moms, having not moved very much since last week, remaining in second place at AUD $2.45 million.  Also remaining in the same spot it was in when it premiered is Sausage Party, at AU$1.77 million.

While there’s been no movement in the top 3 films for this week, you can see that Blake Lively’s cautionary tale of sharks and surfing, The Shallows, debuts in 4th place, at AU$1.55 million.  War Dogs, starring Jonah Hill, also debuted this week and finds itself fifth on the ladder. Another newbie this week debuting in the top 10 was the delightful Kubo and the Two Strings, bringing in a slight AU$675k but gaining great reviews.

The redux of Hollywood epic Ben Hur will make its Australian premiere during the week, and, judging by the response it received from the American public (i.e. it made a dismal debut in the USA), it doesn’t look like it will be giving any of our top 5 films any reason to worry. David Brent: Life on the Road will also debut this week, and, just like the biblical epic, its mixed reviews might leave it lacking.

On the other hand, whilst Finding Dory may have slipped out of the the top 10 spot, we’ve reported previously that it has become the highest grossing film in Australia this year so far, of the Disney/Pixar variety at least, making it a win for Australia (the storyline is still set in Aussie waters) and a win for the environment with its green initiative.
