The acclaimed anthology series Fargo has recently announced a new season three character, played by actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who you might remember from 10 Cloverfield Lane and Scott Pilgrim vs The World. In wake of the news, we wanted to bring you up to date on everything we know, so far, about Fargo season three.
- Fargo takes place in 2010 – the closest to present day that the series (or the film for that matter) has taken us. It will focus on contemporary society, and how modern technology brings people together and divides them.
- There will be a whole new setting and a whole new set of characters, however we may see the return of old characters. At the Television Critic’s Association press tour FX Chief John Landgraf said there is a good chance we will see a character return. “As far as I know, there is one [character returning],” said Landgraf “That doesn’t mean [Hawley] might not change his mind and there might not be more.”
- The show won’t air until 2017. Set in winter, filming for season three won’t begin again until November this year, that means we probably wont see a release until around spring in the US next year. (September – November)
- Ewan McGregor (Star Wars: Episode II & III, Big Fish) will take lead role playing two twins Emmit and Ray Stussy. Emmit is the ‘Parking lot King of Minnesota’ who loves his family and his business empire above everything. Ray on the other hand is balding and has a pot-belly. The parole officer, who peaked in high-school, has a chip on his shoulder and blames his brother for the hand life has dealt him.
- Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) will play Nikki Swango a competitive bridge playing parolee, and woman with a plan who is always one step ahead of her opponents.
- Carrie Coon (Gone Girl) will play Gloria Burgle the chief of police of the small town of Eden Valley. Gloria is a practical woman that will grab a fire extinguisher when bacon catches on fire and everyone else panics.
- According to EW, Showrunner Noah Hawley said that season three wont be as big character-wise as the second year.
