Academy Award winning Actor Leonardo DiCaprio, The Lumineers, The Duffer Brothers and the cast of Stranger Things are coming to the White House lawn on the 3rd of October for President Barack Obama’s South by South Lawn (SXSL) Festival.
The festival calls on every American to discover ways to make positive differences in the country. While attendee’s must be nominated and receive a special invite to enter the event, the festival will be live-streamed on the White House website, the South by South West website, and the official White House Facebook page. Australians will be able to watch the event on Tuesday October 4th local time.
In March, President Barack attended the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, where he hosted a Keynote discussion about the countries toughest issues.
Inspired by South by Southwest (SXSW) the first ever White-House festival seeks to bring together creators and innovators to celebrate ideas, art and action. The interactive session will be held over one day and host expert panels, musical performances, interactive booths and hands-on exhibits.
Some of the highlights of the event include:
- President Obama in Conversation with Leonardo DiCaprio and climate scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, to discuss the importance of protecting the planet for future generations.
- Music performances by The Lumineers, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and DJ Beverly Bond
- Screenings from the 3rd Annual White House Student Film Festival, as well as appearances from the Stranger Things cast including: Millie Bobby Brown (Elle), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Finn Wolfhard (Mike) and Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin)
The festival will also host a range of interactive exhibits, including, a virtual reality solitary confinement experience, an exhibition of how wearable technology could improve cancer care, and a chance to live President Obama’s family trip to Yosemite in virtual reality.
South by South Lawn will take place from approximately 11am – 9pm October 3rd, which means Aussies will have to stay up late to live stream between Midnight and 11AM local time.
