ACMI to celebrate Asian-Pacific arts with Asia TOPA

ACMI, Melbourne’s hub for film, culture and art (located at Federation Square) will soon be celebrating the Asia-Pacific region with the Asia TOPA festival/program.

From Thursday, February 2, 2017, ACMI will home to Bollywood exhibition Bombay Talkies, queer mythology screen installation Ex Nilaling, and video triptych Climax of the Next Scene. Additionally, Ex Nilaling artists will speak at ACMI’s ART+FILM on March 1 and host Club Ate, a one-night hybrid party event on March 2.

Developed by the Art Centre Melbourne, Asia TOPA is a landmark festival-style celebration of Asian-focused art and culture. Created to celebrate the incredible richness and diversity of Asian art, including moving image, performance and culture, the three-week festival will include a stunning program of iconic works and performances.

“ACMI is all about collaboration and Asia TOPA provides a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with organisations and communities who are leaders in their field towards the shared goal of celebrating our neighbours in the Asia-Pacific,” said ACMI CEO and Director Katrina Sedgwick. “As a large nation within the region, Australia is uniquely placed to lead the way in recognising the gigantic and diverse body of arts and cultural offerings found within this part of the globe, and at ACMI we look forward to honouring moving image works and artefacts sourced from the culture-rich nations of India, South Korea and the Philippines”.

Asia TOPA offers up free and ticketed events across the city. You can see when and where it is all taking place, as well as any other information at the ACMI website.

Asia TOPA will run from Feburary 2, 2017 through to March.
