The HD Remaster of Resident Evil leads the charge for your October PS Plus freebies

Sony continues its hit & miss run of quality free games this month, but fortunately this time it falls to the former, with October offering up a couple of awesome titles.

PlayStation 4

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is still a ways off but Sony are wetting our appetites by giving us the very first Resident Evil, only this one is the HD remaster.

Resident Evil was released in 1996 for the PlayStation 1 and then remade for the Nintendo Gamecube in 2002. This here is a remaster of the Gamecube version. Look, don’t get bogged down in the specifics; the point is, it looks gorgeous, it has a tonne of new gameplay elements and plot improvements and it still holds the crown for the best RE game yet.

Transformers fans are in for a treat with Transformers: Devastation. Eschewing the the recent formula of third person shooters and sprawling sagas, Platinum Games (the team behind Bayonetta) have crafted an ode to G1 fans and placed an emphasis on brawling. Bolstered by smooth, cel-shaded visuals, Devastation looks just like an episode of the original series complete with original voice actors. Transforming is a blast and it feels like a Japanese fighting game due to its reliance on combos and flashy fight sequences.

PlayStation 3

PS3 owners can pick up Mad Riders, a racing game developed by Dying Light creators Techland. Tear up 45 different tracks on ATV’s and earn big points for performing stunts.

From Dust
is a “God Game” that sees you controlling the world around you in order to help villages stay alive. You take control of sand, water, etc. in a massive world and complete challenges such as stemming a flood or diverting lava from a volcano. From Dust has received a heap of praise thanks to its expansive map, beautiful visuals and impressive physics.

Playstation Vita

The Vita has basically became a device for JRPG’s or at the very least, anime-inpired games. If that’s your jam, then Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth is free this month. Set against a steampunk backdrop, Code is a “visual novel” that lets you make choices and pick the right suitor in a love story.

Though short, Actual Sunlight is an incredibly significant narrative based game that deals with depression, mental illness and suicide. You play as Evan, an overweight, middle-aged man who works a job he hates. Described as “difficult” and “haunting”, Actual Sunlight might be the most heart wrenching, yet important game you’ll ever play.

These games are available right now. Happy gaming!
