After years of anticipation, the PlayStation VR (PS VR) has officially launched in Australia. The PS VR uses state-of-the-art technologies, such as 360 degree head tracking, wide FOV, high refresh rates, and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own binaural 3D audio technology. Each of these features aim to add, and enhance the overall virtual reality gaming experience.
To add greater player control, the PlayStation VR also utilises peripherals such as the PlayStation Move Motion Controller, the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, and the upcoming PS VR Aim Controller.
But, even though the technological mumbo-jumbo sounds pretty cool, a gaming experience is only as good as its games, and the PS VR has a varied amount. The PS VR is launching with a varied lineup of first- and third-party games including:
- EVE: Valkyrie
- Thumper
- 100ft Robot Golf
- Job Simulator,
- Superhypercube
- Battlezone
- Eagle Flight
- Here They Lie
- PlayStation VR WORLDS
- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
Exclusives such as Rez Infinite and Batman: Arkham VR will be released throughout the rest of the year, with Sony stating that the “PS VR will have a library of approximately 50 games by the end of the year”.
But, what if you are not using the headset but you want to see what’s going on? Well, that’s where “Social Screen” comes into play (Ha Ha! Gaming joke!). This feature displays what the player wearing the VR headset is seeing onto the TV, or can allow players to play alongside VR players in supporting titles. Games such as THE PLAYROOM VR will take advantage of this feature.
The PlayStation VR retails at AUD $549.95, but peripherals such as the move controllers and PS Camera come at an additional cost. It’s available NOW!
