Donald Glover to portray young Lando Calrissian in Han Solo Star Wars film

Community and Atlanta Actor, and Grammy Nominated Rapper Donald Glover (a.k.a disc jockey Childish Gambino) has been cast as Lando Calrissian in the yet-to-be titled Han Solo Star Wars film. Donald Glover will share the set with Alden Ehrenreich, who will play the iconic Solo, LucasFilm has announced.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller the upcoming Star Wars spin-off will explore Lando’s formative years, well before the events in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to rebel hero in Return of the Jedi. Donald Glover will depict the much younger character as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld.

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller.

“These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Fans have a long wait ahead of them to see Glover in action performing the iconic role, as the untitled Han Solo Star Wars film is set to be released – a long long time from now – in 2018.
