New Death Stranding trailer stars Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen and lots of questions

Hideo Kojima was on hand at tonight’s The Game Awards presentation, taking a moment to debut the second trailer for his enigmatic new game Death Stranding.

The trailer featured a couple of surprises, the first of which was film director Guillermo del Toro (HellboyPacific Rim) carrying a baby not dissimilar to the one we saw in the original teaser, held within a strange, embryonic device. del Toro previously worked with Kojima on the cancelled Silent Hills.

Mads Mikkelsen (HannibalDoctor Strange) also appears later in the trailer, tethered to what appear to be long-dead soldiers (get it, they’re dead and connected with strands? That’s literally the only real information the trailer provides about the game so breathe deep of it). Mikkelsen is the second actor following headliner Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) to be announced for the game. It’s interesting to note that the credits card that shows up at the end of the trailer omits del Toro’s inclusion entirely.

Host Geoff Keighley pointed out that the footage in the trailer was captured from a PlayStation 4 Pro console.

This won’t be last we see of Kojima this weekend. The legendary video game auteur will be headed to this weekend’s PlayStation Experience where he will presumably talk a bit more about the game.
