Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and Marvel Entertainment have this morning announced the sequel to their popular Lego Marvel Super Heroes from 2013.
Not to be confused with last year’s uncharacteristically bland Lego Marvel’s Avengers, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 looks to do what it its predecessor did — eschew the Marvel Cinematic Universe entirely in favour of hewing closer to the vibe of Marvel’s many ongoing comics and animated TV shows. This is, in our humble opinion, exactly what they should be doing because that vibe is a far better fit with the irreverent manner in which the Lego games conduct themselves than the films will ever be.
“With a completely original branching storyline, LEGO® Marvel Super Heroes 2 introduces amazing new gameplay features, including the ability for characters to manipulate time and a four-player competitive Super Hero battling mode,” said TT Games’ Managing Director Tom Stone in a prepared statement from the press release. “With a huge array of brand new characters from the Marvel Universe, including old favorites in new guises, this game is sure to thrill both LEGO and Marvel fans, as well as newcomers to the series.”
A teaser trailer has also dropped, promising a full reveal on May 23. Check it out below.
With E3 2017, one of the biggest events on the gaming industry calendar, now under a month away, its interesting that WBIE decided to move on this announcement so soon. Not that we’re complaining or anything, we’re thrilled to know it’s happening. But still, the timing is interesting.
The game will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on November 15, 2017, with a version for the Nintendo Switch still undated but launching in the same window.
