The fifth film in the Pirates franchise lived up to expectations, earning $5.88m at the box office in its opening weekend and shooting straight to no. 1. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is also the best performing opening for a film since Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 opening at the beginning of May with $8.61m.
Johnny Depp’s latest adventures on the high seas knocked King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword off its top perch, where it sits this week at no. 2 in its second week in cinemas. It has earned a distant $1.07m.

Films in third, fourth and fifth positions on the box office charts have remained steady, which means it’s a pretty consistent run of crowd-pleasers in cinemas.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 kept its no. 3 spot, earning $1.01m. having been in cinemas for five weeks, it’s a great position for it to be in, considering all the blockbusters that have been released of late. To date, it’s earned $31m.
John Wick: Chapter Two premiered in no. 4 and this week remains in no. 4, earning $860k (down from $1.82m last week).
In an interesting display of strength, Snatched has managed to remain in no. 5 despite strong blockbuster releases, none of the top 5 films are comedies per se. It made $823k this week.
The biggest drop out of the top 5 was Alien: Covenant , which went from no. 2 last week to no. 6 this week, earning $775k. It had taken the no. 1 spot from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 about 2 weeks ago.
Get Out went from no. 8 to no. 9 and Fate of the Furious has dropped out of the top ten altogether.
It won’t be long before we get another Dwayne Johnson fix, as Baywatch opens this weekend and should make a showing in next week’s report. If that’s not up your alley, the highly anticipated Wonder Woman also premieres – which we expect to just scrape through to the top of the pack.
